The Tamil Nadu government, led by Joseph Vijay, has scrapped the proposed Parandur greenfield airport near Chennai due to large water bodies rendering much of the acquired land unsuitable for runways. The 4,970-acre project faced strong opposition from farmers and environmentalists over displacement and wetland loss.

The government plans to find an alternative site prioritizing environmental concerns, while the opposition criticizes the move as abandoning strategic growth. The decision complicates land use for acquired properties and highlights tensions between development and local interests.
