Tamil National People's Front Meets Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
04-Jul-2026.
A delegation of the Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay in Chennai and urged the State Government to convene an all-party conference to forge a united Tamil Nadu position on the Sri Lankan Tamil national question.
Led by TNPF leader and Jaffna MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the delegation submitted a memorandum asserting that Sri Lanka's 13th Amendment cannot serve as the starting point for a political solution for Tamils. It also opposed any move to reintroduce a unitary Constitution in Sri Lanka.
The delegation argued that previous constitutional proposals had failed to safeguard Tamil political rights and reiterated its support for a federal political framework based on the principles adopted at the 1985 Thimphu Talks. It urged Tamil Nadu to convey a united democratic message to both the Government of India and Sri Lanka in support of the political aspirations of Sri Lankan Tamils.
