Bus fares increased by 12%; new rates effective from July 5

The National Transport Commission (NTC) has approved a 12 per cent increase in bus fares under the annual fare revision.

The revised fares will come into effect from midnight on July 5.

Under the new fare structure for normal bus services, fares for journeys of up to 100 kilometres will increase by 12 per cent, while fares for journeys exceeding 100 kilometres will rise by 20 per cent.

For luxury bus services, fares for the first 100 kilometres will increase by 12 per cent, while fares for journeys beyond 100 kilometres will increase by 15 per cent.

The Private Bus Owners' Association said that under the revised fare structure, the minimum bus fare will be Rs. 34.
