Sajith Premadasa Calls for Justice for Victims of Financial Crimes

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called for justice for all those affected by financial crimes, stating that many influential individuals are allegedly involved in such cases. He said the authorities must uncover the truth and ensure that depositors and other victims receive the justice they deserve.

Speaking during the parliamentary debate on regulations under the Sri Lanka Electricity Act on 26 June 2026, Premadasa said financial fraud and malpractice within the country's financial institutions have caused severe hardship to ordinary people. He stressed that protecting the interests of depositors and restoring confidence in the financial system should be a national priority.

He urged the government to conduct impartial investigations, hold those responsible accountable regardless of their position, and strengthen regulatory mechanisms to prevent similar financial misconduct in the future.
