Indictments Filed Against Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and Two Others

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on June 19 filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and two others over an alleged compensation fraud amounting to Rs. 8.85 million.
The case relates to compensation claimed for properties damaged during the May 9 unrest at Sevanaagala in the Mahaweli Authority area.
The other accused are identified as Sepalika Samankumari and Keerthi Bandara Kodagama.
The indictment contains ten charges, names 30 witnesses and includes 38 documentary exhibits.
According to the allegations, compensation for the damaged properties had initially been rejected. However, the accused are alleged to have exerted influence on certain government officials and fraudulently obtained compensation amounting to Rs. 8.85 million.
