Need to Strengthen Cooperation Among Indian Ocean Rim Countries: Foreign Secretary

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Secretary Aruni Ranaraja has stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships and promoting dialogue-based cooperation among member states of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

She co-chaired the 28th Senior Officials’ Meeting of IORA held in New Delhi on June 15 under India’s chairmanship, themed “Innovation, Transparency, Resilience and Adaptability”.

In her address, she highlighted achievements during Sri Lanka’s 2023–2025 chairmanship, including strengthening the association’s institutional framework.

She also underscored the importance of maritime security, ocean governance, blue economy development, sustainable environmental management, and enhanced regional cooperation through dialogue.
