The Catholic Church has called for the repeal or substantial amendment of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, stating that it contains inhumane provisions and has been in force for too long.

Church spokesperson Father Cyril Gamini said the law must not be used selectively or become an obstacle to ongoing investigations, particularly into the Easter Sunday attacks.

He stressed that legal procedures must apply equally to all individuals, including former intelligence officials currently in custody.

He added that while allegations of misconduct must be investigated, they should not derail broader judicial proceedings.
