Northern Manitoba provincial parks still closed
16-May-2026.
May long weekend usually means the start of camping season, but bad weather means some provincial parks in northern Manitoba will open later than normal.
The unofficial start to the summer will need to wait a week or two up north. Parks in southern regions of the province are open for campers, but six parks and several campgrounds remain closed due to recent bad weather and persistent snow.
Campgrounds at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park — including both Campers Cove and Pioneer Bay — are expected to open May 22. North Steeprock Lake Provincial Park will also be closed until May 22.
Several other northern parks are expected to open even later. Campgrounds at Bakers Narrows, Grass River (Gyles, Iskwasum and Reed lakes), Paint Lake and Wekusko Falls provincial parks will open May 29 at the earliest.
If more snow falls, those dates could be pushed into June.
