Anuradhapura Child Abuse Case: Ensuring Justice Will Be Served
16-May-2026.
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has stated that it is closely monitoring whether the law is being properly implemented in relation to the sexual abuse of a young girl from Anuradhapura, an incident that has caused widespread public outrage.
In a statement, the Authority said it has been taking procedural steps since the case was reported and is prepared to take all necessary measures to safeguard the rights of the victim and ensure justice is delivered.
The statement further noted that no political or external pressure has been exerted on the NCPA in relation to investigations or legal proceedings. The Authority will continue to ensure that investigations are carried out independently in the best interests of the child.
The public has been urged not to panic or become unnecessarily confused, as undue public unrest may obstruct the legal process. Citizens have been requested to remain calm.
The NCPA also confirmed that the victim is currently being housed securely at a special care centre, and that her safety has been ensured.
The Authority emphasised that protection from all forms of violence is a fundamental right of every child, and ensuring such protection is the collective responsibility of society.
