Former Supreme Court justice Louise Arbour will be installed as Canada's next governor general on June 8.

Before being announced as the next representative of the King in Canada, Arbour had a long career as an accomplished jurist, having served in a number of highly influential roles both at home and abroad.

The 79-year-old was previously the chief prosecutor for the international criminal tribunals for both the former Yugoslavia and for Rwanda, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and CEO of the International Crisis Group.

She has received 42 honorary doctorates and is already a Companion of the Order of Canada — the country's highest honour — in recognition of her pioneering legal work here and around the world.
