One person dead after boat capsizes on St. Lawrence River

A 41 year old man from Ottawa is dead following a boating incident on the St. Lawrence River, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

According to an OPP press release, officers from the Leeds County Detachment responded to calls about a capsized boat north of Grenadier Island, about 55 km north-east of Kingston, shortly after 10 p.m. on April 25.

A 15 foot aluminum vessel with multiple occupants on board had overturned and one person was reported unaccounted for, police said, adding all other occupants made it to shore safely.

The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service located the missing person unresponsive in the water. The man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he were later pronounced deceased.

OPP said an investigation is ongoing.
