All Ceylon Snack and Restaurant Owners’ Association President Harshana Rukshan stated that the association has decided to increase food prices in line with the recent gas price hike.
He made these remarks during a special media briefing held in Colombo on April 6.
He said the Government has increased gas prices for the second time within a month. While a small increase could have been reviewed with possible consumer relief, Litro Gas has increased by Rs. 775 and Laugfs Gas by Rs. 1,070.
Accordingly, the association has decided to increase prices of items such as rice and curry and kottu roti by Rs. 20.
However, he noted that if prices are reduced, the association will immediately reduce food prices as well. Since coconut oil prices have slightly decreased, the association has decided to reduce short eats prices by Rs. 10.
He added that Keeri Samba rice is commonly used in restaurants, and the Government’s plan to import rice could help control price increases. If rice becomes available at a lower price, the association will certainly reduce prices of rice-based meals.
