The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) and the Democratic Tamil National Alliance have appointed a joint committee comprising nine members to make common decisions and formulate policies regarding the political and economic issues faced by the Tamil people.

With the aim of working together on a common platform on issues of concern to the Tamil people, including a solution to the ethnic question, drafting a new Constitution, and holding Provincial Council elections, the two parties have been holding continuous discussions.

Accordingly, the third meeting between the two parties was held on March 28 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the residence of ITAK Acting Leader C.V.K. Sivagnanam in Jaffna.

Representing ITAK were Acting Leader C.V.K. Sivagnanam and General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran. Representing the Democratic Tamil National Alliance were General Secretary Ratnalingam, Media Spokesperson Suresh Premachandran, and leaders of constituent parties including Selvam Adaikkalanathan, Vendhan, and Chandrakumar.

As previously proposed, a joint committee comprising representatives of both parties was officially appointed yesterday to take common decisions and formulate policies on the political and economic issues affecting the Tamil people.

The committee consists of three members from ITAK: C.V.K. Sivagnanam, M.A. Sumanthiran, and Thurairajasingam, and six members from the Democratic Tamil National Alliance: Dharmalingam Sitharthan, Selvam Adaikkalanathan, Suresh Premachandran, Vendhan, Chandrakumar, and Ratnalingam, totaling nine members.

ITAK Acting Leader C.V.K. Sivagnanam and Democratic Tamil National Alliance Secretary Ratnalingam will serve as coordinators of the committee.

The meeting also included lengthy discussions on matters raised during a meeting organized a few weeks ago by the Tamil Lawyers Forum, which aimed to bring Tamil nationalist political parties to a unified position on issues related to a solution to the ethnic problem and the drafting of a new Constitution. Both parties agreed to work together in this regard.

Meanwhile, discussions were also held regarding the government’s continued delay in holding Provincial Council elections as required by the Constitution, and its promotion of what was described as an irregular initiative named “Praja Shakthi.” Participants stressed the need to apply pressure to ensure Provincial Council elections are held without further delay.

The meeting also reviewed the country’s current political developments and evolving geopolitical situation.
