No Disruptions in Fuel Supply: Chairman of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation
29-Mar-2026.
Fuel supply in the country has now been fully secured, and there will be no disruptions in fuel distribution. The public need not panic, as fuel shipments will continue to arrive in Sri Lanka regularly, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) D.J.A.S. D.S. Rajakaruna said.
He made these remarks during a media briefing held at the Government Information Department on March 28.
Speaking further, he said diesel supply can be maintained without any issues until mid-next month. Stocks of 92 and 95 octane petrol have been secured until the beginning of June. Two ships are currently being unloaded. One ship contains 30,000 metric tonnes of 92 octane petrol and 5,000 metric tonnes of 95 octane petrol. Another IOC vessel arriving today will carry 18,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 92 octane petrol.
He explained that difficulties arose in obtaining crude oil required for the refinery. The refinery produces additional diesel and fuel oil required by the country. Since the unavailability of furnace oil could lead to power cuts, tenders have been called for its procurement. Accordingly, between April 2 and 4, shipments of 32,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 8,000 metric tonnes of aviation fuel are expected to arrive.
Subsequently, 37,500 metric tonnes of diesel are scheduled to arrive on April 6 and 7. Between April 7 and 8, another shipment of 32,000 metric tonnes of diesel and a ship carrying 5,000 metric tonnes of super diesel will arrive. Between April 10 and 11, 30,000 metric tonnes of aviation fuel will be delivered. Between April 18 and 19, a Sinopec vessel is expected to bring 20,000 metric tonnes each of diesel and 92 octane petrol.
For power generation, a vessel carrying 30,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil will arrive between April 12 and 13. Between April 16 and 17, 35,000 metric tonnes of 92 octane petrol will arrive. Another ship arriving on April 21 and 22 will carry 20,000 metric tonnes of diesel, 17,000 metric tonnes of 92 octane petrol, and 3,000 metric tonnes of 95 octane petrol.
Similarly, between April 24 and 25, 37,000 metric tonnes of diesel will arrive, and between April 29 and 30, shipments of 30,000 metric tonnes of 92 octane petrol and 5,000 metric tonnes of 95 octane petrol are scheduled.
He stated that there are no issues in securing these fuel shipments for April, and clarified that these fuel supplies are not being sourced from Middle Eastern countries currently affected by conflict.
