Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called for the immediate suspension of the Parate law.

Speaking to the media following a meeting with micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs in Colombo on March 25, he highlighted the severe challenges faced by the sector.

He noted that MSMEs, which contribute 52% to the national economy, have been significantly impacted by rising fuel prices, affecting production cycles, demand, and supply chains.

The sector provides employment to over 4.5 million people and supports numerous households. Its collapse would severely damage economic growth and weaken household incomes.

He urged the government to intervene and provide necessary support, including restructuring loans to enable repayment.

He also stated that despite claims of increased state revenue, the government has failed to revive MSMEs that have suffered multiple crises since 2019.
