Lee Sun-kyun, the South Korean actor renowned for his role in the Oscar-winning film 'Parasite', was discovered dead, Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday. The news comes amid an ongoing government crackdown on illegal drugs, with Lee having been under investigation for alleged drug use.

According to Yonhap, Lee was found unconscious next to briquettes inside a car at a park in Seoul on Wednesday morning.

The discovery followed a report from Lee's wife to the police, stating that he had left home, accompanied by what appeared to be a suicide note.

South Korea, known for its stringent drug laws, imposes severe penalties for drug-related offences. Offenders can face a minimum of six months in prison, escalating to up to 14 years for repeat offences and individuals involved in drug dealing.
