The constitution of the United National Party (UNP) was amended at its convention, bringing in structural changes to the party.
Powers will be transferred to the party’s Working Committee from the Executive Committee, according to party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. The number of members in the Working Committee is to be reduced under the new amendments.
“There is no need for a large Working Committee now as the party will have an Executive Committee which will have more than 100 members,” Wickremesinghe said.
Also, the party will have a high posts committee which will be responsible for deciding on tactics.
