Sanjay Manjrekar was delighted to see a new Suryakumar Yadav in the first ODI between India and Australia. The right-handed batter, who is renowned for his breathtaking strokes in T20 format, played differently in Mohali. He didn’t go for glory shots and played the ball straight down the ground.
Manjrekar, who played his domestic cricket for Mumbai, haled the explosive batter for curbing his natural instinct. “He is not a T20 dasher and knows how to bat in fifty-over format. SKY has an average of over 40 in domestic cricket in the fifty-over format. He is not like Nicholas Pooran, who plays T20s a lot,” he said.
“He was not getting his timing right until now in the ODIs, and he has realized that a different type of game is needed to succeed in this form,” he added.
