The Ottawa Hospital to cut 3% of its workforce
10-Apr-2026.
The Ottawa Hospital has announced a plan to cut three per cent of its workforce in the coming months.
In an email sent on April 9, staff were informed that the hospital will be reducing management, non-union, support, executive, nursing and other health-care positions.
In a statement to CBC, the hospital pointed to financial challenges facing the health-care sector as the reason for the cuts, claiming it has been working to reduce budget pressures through other measures before resorting to reducing staff.
Those include offering early retirement for those eligible, freezing and eliminating vacant positions, and moving to a more economical provincial group benefits plan.
"Despite all of this, regrettably there will still be some reductions to job positions in the coming months," the statement reads.
The statement did not provide a specific timeline for the job reductions. Nor did the hospital say how many positions are expected to be affected, but said it is working with unions to finalize the details.
