Emergency crews in Gatineau responded to two fatal incidents on local waterways on the weekend.
The first call came around 1:00 p.m. on July 11 from Drakkar Street in the city's east end where Gatineau police say a seven-year-old child drowned in the Blanche River. The child was pronounced dead at the Gatineau Hospital.
The investigation is now in the hands of the coroner, a Gatineau police spokesperson said.
Just over an hour later, police were called to Parc des Cèdres near the Aylmer Marina where a 71-year-old woman was found unconscious in the Ottawa River.
Resuscitation efforts were already underway when police arrived, the spokesperson said. The woman was transported to Hull Hospital where she was pronounced dead that evening.
