North Frontenac wildfire appears contained

A wildfire that drove residents from their homes west of Ottawa appears to have stopped spreading, officials in North Frontenac Township said on October 20.

The wildfire broke out near Ompah, Ont., on October 19, forcing between 15 and 20 people from their homes and closing Road 509.

The road reopened on October 21 evening, but the township said the evacuation recommendation remains in effect. There have been no reports of injuries or damage to infrastructure.
