European Union calls for constructive action on accountability

The European Union, addressing the UN Human Rights Council, stated that justice and accountability are essential for building sustainable peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

Speaking through the representative from Cyprus, the EU welcomed recent progressive reforms by the Sri Lankan government and pledged to continue cooperation toward sustainable development and reconciliation.

However, the EU emphasized the need for “more constructive action” by Sri Lanka on accountability and reaffirmed the importance of the UN Human Rights Office’s accountability mechanism for ensuring justice and lasting peace.
