Sri Lanka’s representative rejects the new resolution entirely
08-Oct-2025.

Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN Human Rights Council, Himali Arunatilaka, announced that Sri Lanka fully rejects the new resolution presented by the core group of nations.
She stated that Sri Lanka had long questioned the credibility, functioning, and funding of the UN’s accountability project on Sri Lanka, which she claimed has not benefited the Sri Lankan people but instead divided them along ethnic lines.
Although some of Sri Lanka’s proposed amendments were included, key concerns remained unresolved. She reiterated Foreign Minister Wijitha Herath’s stance that Sri Lanka would not accept “external mechanisms.”
Arunatilaka emphasized that the Sri Lankan government has taken significant steps toward reconciliation in a short time and therefore rejects the new resolution in its entirety.
