At least 30 people were killed in a Russian drone strike on a railway station in Ukraine's northern Sumy region on October 4, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling the air assault "savage". Citing preliminary reports, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) staff and passengers were present on the train at the time of the strike.

Zelenskyy posted a video on X, showing a mangled train carriage engulfed in flames with twisted metal and shattered windows. The Russian attack had targeted a railway station and the train heading from Shostka to Kyiv had been hit, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov was quoted by news agency Reuters as saying.

"A savage Russian drone strike on the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region. All emergency services are already on the scene and have begun helping people. All information about the injured is being established. So far, we know of at least 30 victims. Preliminary reports indicate that both Ukrzaliznytsia staff and passengers were at the site of the strike," he said.
