Karnataka police arrest 12 more in Canara Bank gold heist

Karnataka police have made 12 more arrests in the Canara Bank locker heist taking the total number of arrests to 15. Officials called it one of Karnataka’s biggest bank robberies in recent memory.

The robbery took place between May 23 and 25 at the Canara Bank branch in Managuli village, Vijayapura district. 

Among the 12 newly arrested are Balaraj Yerrekula, Gund Joseph Shyambabu, Chandanraj Pillai, and Ejaz Dharwad. Police said some suspects are still absconding, and search operations are continuing.

So far, police have recovered around 39 kg of stolen gold jewellery, Rs 1.16 crore in cash, and vehicles used in the crime. The total recovery exceeds Rs 39.26 crore.
