Sri Lanka kicks off passenger ferry service with India
Upon completion of its facility expansion, the Kankesanturai Harbour was declared open yesterday making way for a passenger ferry service between India and Sri Lanka.
Upon completion of its facility expansion, the Kankesanturai Harbour was declared open yesterday making way for a passenger ferry service between India and Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Fisheries, Douglas Devananda and with the attendance of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Aruna Tennekoon.
The port welcomed the luxury cruise MV Empress, sailing with a total of 100 passengers. The Captain of the ship and its crew also joined this milestone event.
