.
To ensure peaceful student-led celebrations at the Jogesh Chandra Law College, the Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered police security for the Saraswati Puja celebrations at the college in Kolkata.
Justice Joy Sengupta directed a Joint Commissioner-level officer to oversee the arrangements and ensure law and order during the event.
The court ruled that separate pujas must be held for the Day College and Law College departments. It also instructed college authorities to record the entire event on video.
Police were directed to bar people with pending complaints from entering the premises, allowing only students from the two departments to participate.
Meanwhile, the court has also ordered the Charu Market Police Station to demolish an illegal puja pandal inside the Day College premises by 12 pm and record the process.
A Joint Commissioner-rank officer from Kolkata Police will supervise security measures.
