As netizens in Chennai demanded the government to declare a holiday, the local administration across the rain-hit region has announced a holiday for educational institutions on Wednesday, November 27.
Due to the heavy rainfall forecast, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Thiruvallur, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Puducherry, Karaikal, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvarur and Cuddalore districts tomorrow.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, "Yesterday's Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards, intensifying into a Deep Depression. As of 3:00 UTC on November 26, 2024, it was centered over the same region near latitude 6.3°N and longitude 82.8°E. It is approximately 310 km southeast of Trincomalee, 590 km south-southeast of Nagapattinam, 710 km south-southeast of Puducherry, and 800 km south-southeast of Chennai. The system is expected to strengthen into a Cyclonic Storm by November 27 and move further north-northwestwards, skirting the Sri Lankan coast before approaching the Tamil Nadu coast in the next two days."
