Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm after being appointed as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team on Tuesday, July 9.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed Gambhir's appointment as the head coach of the India Men's senior team.

Gambhir will take over the role from Rahul Dravid, under whom India reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup in 2023, and won the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Gambhir, known for his pivotal role in India's World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011, took to Twitter to share his feelings about the new responsibility.

He tweeted, "India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I'm honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true."
