Rashid Khan welcomes debutants Uganda to T20 World Cup

Rashid recalled Afghanistan's World Cup debut from 14 years ago and wished the African side the best for their journey in the competition.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan welcomed debutants Uganda to the men's T20 World Cup with heart-warming words at the toss ahead of their Group C match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Tuesday.

Rashid recalled Afghanistan's World Cup debut from 14 years ago and wished the African side the best for their journey in the competition.

Uganda captain Brian Masaba had the rub of the green going his way in their T20 World Cup debut as he won the toss and opted to field. Guyana had favoured the chasing teams in the recent past and the Uganda captain did not think twice before making the call at the toss.

"It is a special moment for Uganda, Afghanistan was there 10 to 12 years (14) ago at the same stage. It is something special for them and for us as well," Rashid Khan said, wishing Uganda at the toss. Notably, Afghanistan made the T20 World Cup debut in 2010 and have come a long way since. Rashid's men have been labelled as dark horses for the tournament.
