Opera browser to bring Google's Gemini to power AI features

The company will also use Google's large language models (LLMs) for image generation and text-to-voice functionality.

Opera web browser has announced a collaboration with Google Cloud on May 28. The browser is looking forward to integrate Gemini models into its Aria AI.

The company will also use Google's large language models (LLMs) for image generation and text-to-voice functionality.

Opera claimed that its Composer AI engine used to only process the user’s intent and then decide which model to use for the task. After the tie-up with Google's Gemini, Opera will be able to provide its users with the most current information. Gemini AI models will help Opera to fetch real-time data.

The tie-up also means that the browser will get new capabilities like AI-powered image generation and voice output in Aria.

Eva Fors, Managing Director, Google Cloud Nordic Region stated in the release, “We’re happy to elevate our long standing cooperation with Opera by powering its AI innovation within the browser space. We believe the future of AI will be open, so we’re providing access to the best of Google’s infrastructure, AI products, platforms and foundation models to empower organizations to chart their course with generative AI."

Per Wetterdal, EVP Partnerships at Opera also stated that, "Our companies have been cooperating for more than 20 years. We are excited to be announcing the deepening of this collaboration into the field of generative AI to further power our suite of browser AI services."
