Yoga calms the mind and protects the heart

A 2023 study found that young adults who practiced yoga showed significantly lower stress levels and improved heart health parameters such as blood pressure and heart rate.
Researchers from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Chennai observed that yoga helps modulate the autonomic nervous system, specifically by reducing sympathetic (stress-related) activity and enhancing parasympathetic (relaxation-related) responses.
Certain yoga postures (asanas) combined with breathing exercises are known to speed up the metabolism and help burn fat and facilitate weight loss. Yoga may also positively influence heart rate variability (HRV), an indicator of how well the heart adapts to stress. Higher HRV is generally associated with better cardiovascular resilience.
