$3M in federal money aims to boost rural economies in Waterloo region

A nearly $3-million investment from the federal government will go toward supporting the economic potential of rural communities in Waterloo region.

A nearly $3-million investment from the federal government will go toward supporting the economic potential of rural communities in Waterloo region.

The funding announcement was made Wednesday by Filomena Tassi, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. The money will be used to create business investment opportunities in the townships, especially within the electric vehicle industry, clean tech and agri-food.

"We recognize the immense potential and possibilities of the people of this region and the townships," Tassi said.

"Rural areas of Waterloo region are a large reason why our economy continues to thrive."
