The construction of the AIIMS Madurai Hospital is slated for completion by 2026, according to the Union Minister of State for Health Bharati Praveen Pawar.

The construction of the AIIMS Madurai Hospital is slated for completion by 2026, according to the Union Minister of State for Health Bharati Praveen Pawar.

In response to questions from DMK MP Wilson regarding the project's status, completion timeline, and a Rs 700 crore increase in the revised estimate, the Minister provided a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Minister stated that pre-investment activities, including the construction of the perimeter wall at AIIMS Hospital, have been finished. Major works have been assigned to qualified bidders through awarded tenders.

As per the loan agreement with Japan's JICA, the target is to complete the construction by October 2026.

The Minister also noted that the addition of an Epidemiology Unit and an increase in the construction area led to the project cost rising from Rs 1,264 crore to Rs 1,977 crore.
