Isabelle Martin Appointed as Canada’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka

With the term of Canada’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Eric Walsh, ending this August, the Canadian government has announced that Isabelle Martin will be appointed as the new High Commissioner.

Isabelle Martin joined Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1996 and has served extensively in the diplomatic service.

She was Director and Deputy Head of Mission for Canada’s Diplomatic Service from 2010 to 2013, and up to 2018 she served as Special Adviser on National Security Issues in the Bureau of Canadian Geopolitical Affairs.

Internationally, she held key positions in Cairo, Abu Dhabi, and London between 1998 and 2008.

From 2018 to 2022, she served in Canberra as Deputy High Commissioner and Political Program Director.

In September 2022, she was appointed as Canada’s Ambassador to Qatar.

A graduate of Laval University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s in International Relations from Queen’s University’s Centre for International Studies, Isabelle Martin is now appointed as Canada’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
