The New People’s Front has lodged a complaint with the Bribery and Corruption Commission against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne over the use of vehicles and occupancy of two residences.

The leader of the New People’s Front, Sugeeshwara Bandara, announced this during a media briefing in Colombo on July 5.

“The National People’s Power government came to power claiming it would reduce public expenses. But now, it is operating improperly. They promise the people one thing but implement another,” he said.

“The Speaker is residing at the Loris Road residence instead of his official residence at Mumtaz Mahal. His private secretary currently occupies this apartment. How can the government allocate two residences to the Speaker at public expense?”

“With the approval of the Secretary General of Parliament, the Speaker has been provided two vehicles and 900 liters of fuel. Yet, he is using three vehicles.”

“How can the Speaker be granted two houses and unauthorized vehicles? This amounts to misuse of taxpayers’ money. Therefore, we have filed a complaint with the Bribery and Corruption Commission,” he stated.
