MK Stalin claims Tamil Nadu's murder rate dropped under DMK compared to AIADMK

Chief Minister MK Stalin asserted that the number of murders in Tamil Nadu has declined under his administration compared to the AIADMK regime.

Responding to criticism from the Opposition leader in the State Assembly over law and order, Stalin cited official data to claim that his government has taken effective measures to curb crime.

Opposition leader and AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami raised concerns over the recent murder of history-sheeter John, who was killed on Salem Highway by a gang. In the Assembly, Palaniswami argued that law and order had deteriorated under the present government.

In response, Chief Minister Stalin stated that the Sithodu Police team had surrounded the culprits and, upon being attacked, were forced to open fire before arresting three suspects - Satish, Saravanan, and Bhoopolan. A fourth accused, Karthik, was also taken into custody.

Comparing the current government’s record with that of the AIADMK, Chief Minister Stalin contended that murder cases had significantly declined. “Between 2012 and 2024, the highest number of murders under the AIADMK government was recorded in 2012, with 1,943 cases, followed by 1,927 cases in 2013.

Even during the COVID-19 lockdown, 1,661 murders occurred under AIADMK rule. In contrast, due to the tireless efforts of the police, the number of murders fell to 1,540 in 2022 - the lowest recorded. The Tamil Nadu Police are effectively preventing crime, ensuring public safety, and securing public spaces,” he said.

He also criticised the opposition for politicising crime statistics. “I urge those who attempt to gain political mileage by highlighting isolated incidents of revenge crimes and blaming this government to examine how law and order deteriorated during the previous regime. The data speaks for itself,” he said.
