BJD leader demands special status for Odisha

.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Member of Parliament, Dr Sasmit Patra has called for immediate recognition of Special Category Status for Odisha during a session in the Rajya Sabha.

Addressing Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Patra emphasised Odisha's long-standing demand, describing it as a “dignified, consistent, and rightful demand.”

“We have not raised our voice in anger; we have raised it for a reason. But reason, when ignored for too long, must thunder. Today, I am here to make this House listen. Odisha is The Pillar of India's Growth, The Shield Against Nature’s Wrath. Odisha is the engine room of India's economyour coal power industries, our minerals build India’s infrastructure, and our ports connect India to the world. Yet, Odisha stands vulnerableyear after year, storm after storm,” said Patra.

“No other state is asked to sacrifice as much, contribute as much, and yet receive as little national assistance. This House must ask itself: Will Odisha forever remain the silent sentinel, expected to give but never granted?” he questioned.

The BJD leader urged the Union government to recognise Odisha’s demand, calling it a "National Test of Fairness." He stressed the need for equitable support to acknowledge the state’s contributions and challenges.
