6 arrested in Gujarat for stealing pregnant cow, slaughtering it for meat

The accused have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanghita, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act

6 people were arrested in Gujarat's Bharuch district for allegedly stealing a pregnant cow, slaughtering it and consuming its meat, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place on Diwali (October 31) when Kamlesh Ahir, who owned the cow, had tied it to a tree near his home in Eksaal village as it was struggling to walk. Later that evening, Kamlesh discovered that his cow was missing and lodged a complaint with the local police.

In his complaint, Kamlesh said he and his father, while searching for the cow, received information that some people from a neighbouring village had taken the animal. Upon visiting the village, they found animal remains, which they handed over to the police for investigation.

Kamlesh identified the suspects as Sarfaraz Mansuri, Wasim Mansuri, Mubarak Mansuri, Soheb Mansuri, and Rizwan Mansuri from the neighbouring village. He also alleged that one Ajay Rathod assisted in transporting the cow.

The accused have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanghita, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act. Futher investigation into the matter is underway.
