Tamil Nadu Chief Minister wants newly-weds to have 16 children

Stalin, in his address, said that while elders in earlier times used to bless newly-wed couples to acquire 16 forms of wealth

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday made a comment about newly-wed couples having more children. Stalin made these remarks at a mass wedding event held by the state’s Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department, where 31 couples were married in his presence.

According to him, perhaps it was time for couples to have 16 children instead of 16 forms of wealth.

Stalin, in his address, said that while elders in earlier times used to bless newly-wed couples to acquire 16 forms of wealth, perhaps now the time has come to have 16 children instead of 16 forms of wealth.

Stalin, in his address, said that while elders in earlier times used to bless newly-wed couples to acquire 16 forms of wealth, perhaps now the time has come to have 16 children instead of 16 forms of wealth.

“When the elders used to wish ‘may you have 16 and live prosperously’, it didn’t mean 16 children but 16 forms of wealth. This was mentioned by author Viswanathan in his book as ‘cow, house, wife, children, education, curiosity, knowledge, discipline, land, water, age, vehicle, gold, property, harvest and praise’,” Stalin said.

“But now nobody is blessing you to attain 16 forms of wealth. They only bless you to have adequate children and live prosperously. However, considering that parliamentary constituencies might be reduced, there could arise a situation to make you wonder if we should be having 16 children. Let us not forget that,” the Chief Minister said.
