The Manipur government has extended the ban on internet services in the violence-hit north-eastern state of India till October 21.

The state government said that the restriction has been extended in a bid to "thwart activities of anti-social elements and to maintain peace and harmony and law and order in Manipur.
"There is an imminent danger of loss of life/or damage to public/private property, and widespread disturbances to public tranquillity...as a result of inflammatory material and false rumours, which might be transmitted/ circulated to the public through social media/messaging services on mobile services, SMS services and dongle services," the government order said.
The notification further stated that the ban has been imposed until 7:45 pm on October 21 while adding that the internet services may fuel the prevailing violence in Manipur.
