The Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, recently held a secret meeting with India’s Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, in Washington days ago amid the diplomatic stand-off between the two countries over Canada's allegation of India's involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, British newspaper Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the situation.

Neither Canada’s nor India's foreign ministry has confirmed the meeting.

The report also mentioned that the Canadian government was making efforts to resolve the strained diplomatic situation with New Delhi, following reports that Canadian diplomats had been given a deadline to leave India or risk losing their diplomatic immunity.
