6 killed as helicopter crashes into Hudson River near Manhattan

.

A New York City sightseeing helicopter broke apart midair and plunged upside down into the Hudson River on Apr 10, killing all six people on board, including a family of Spanish tourists, the Associated Press reported citing officials.

The crash prompted a large-scale emergency response from officials on both sides of the river, between Lower Manhattan and Jersey City.

Mayor Eric Adams stated that the flight departed from a downtown heliport around 3 pm and lasted less than 18 minutes.

Tragically, all those on board, including three children, were recovered from the water, officials confirmed. Rescue efforts are underway.
