Senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister K Ponmudy apologised on Apr 12 for his remarks linking Hindu religious identities to sexual positions, which sparked widespread backlash and prompted action from the party.
The minister acknowledged that his comments, referring to a sex worker offering different sexual positions for Shaivite and Vaishnavite followers, were "inappropriate" and issued an apology.
"I sincerely apologise for the inappropriate use of words in an internal meeting held by the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam. I immediately and sincerely regretted that I had made this inappropriate comment. I am deeply sorry that I have been in public life for such a long time," he said.
The minister added, "I am deeply sorry that this speech has hurt the feelings of many people and that it has created an atmosphere in which they have to bow their heads. I apologise again and again for my words to everyone who was offended".
