DMK MP moves privilege motion against Dharamendra Pradhan for ‘misleading’ remarks

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi moved a privilege motion against Union Education Minister Dharamendra Pradhan on Mar 10, accusing him of misleading Parliament over Tamil Nadu’s stance on the PM Shri scheme.

Kanimozhi said Pradhan wrongly claimed that the Tamil Nadu government initially agreed to sign an MoU for the scheme but later took a U-turn. She also alleged that the minister misrepresented a meeting between him and Tamil Nadu MPs, stating they initially supported the scheme and later withdrew, which she refuted as incorrect.

Pradhan had earlier accused the Tamil Nadu government of being "dishonest" and doing a U-turn on the implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP), which drew sharp criticism from the DMK.

"They are dishonest and they are ruining the future of the students of Tamil Nadu. They are doing politics,” he said.

He withdrew certain words he had used for Tamil Nadu MPs after the Lok Sabha was adjourned after protests from DMK leaders. Pradhan urged the Tamil Nadu government to rise above political interests for the benefit of students.
