Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin flagged off yesterday (January 13) the test drive of Mahindra’s latest electric SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9 variants, at the Secretariat in Chennai.

The launch marks a significant milestone for the state’s growing electric vehicle sector, with both models being designed and developed locally.

The BE 6 and XEV 9 variants were introduced in November at Chengalpattu and Cheyyar. The vehicles feature state-of-the-art technology, including automated steering systems, advanced safety mechanisms like automatic braking, lane-changing capabilities, and parking assistance.

“The vehicles are equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, six cameras, and five radars, which help in auto parking and preventing collisions,” said Veluchamy, Mahindra’s Technology and Development President.

The electric SUVs come with a 79 kWh battery pack that offers an impressive 500 km range on a single charge. Moreover, the battery can charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes, making it a convenient option for long-distance travel. “The vehicles are equipped with a virtual auto parking system, advanced heads-up display, and turn-by-turn navigation,” added Veluchamy.
