Rahul Gandhi gets bail in defamation case over remarks on Savarkar

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was granted bail on Friday by a Pune Court in a defamation case related to his remarks about Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The court granted bail on a surety bond of Rs 25,000 after Gandhi appeared for the hearing via video conferencing.

Senior Congress leader Mohan Joshi stood as surety before the court.

Advocate Milind Pawar, representing Gandhi, said the court also granted permanent exemption to the Congress leader from appearing before it, news agency PTI reported.
