Permission for Mekedatu project delayed due to political reasons: DK Shivkumar

.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday said that the Mekedatu project, which seeks to store surplus water, offers more benefits to Tamil Nadu. He emphasised that the project had not received permission due to political reasons but expressed hope that the courts would provide justice soon.

Speaking to the media after prayers at the Varadaraja Perumal Temple, Shivakumar said, "We are fighting for it in court. Permission has not been granted for certain political reasons. We are hopeful of getting justice in the coming days."

The Deputy Chief Minister also addressed the issue of surplus water flowing into Tamil Nadu. He noted that over 400 thousand million cubic feet of surplus water had entered the state and that, if stored, it could be used during times of scarcity.
