Two female cops killed by speeding car on Chennai-Trichy highway

When they reached Maduranthakam, a car that tried to overtake them hit them from behind. Both of them were thrown from the bike.

A 36-year-old woman Sub-Inspector and a female Head Constable lost their lives in a road accident after a speeding car hit their motorbike on the Chennai-Trichy highway early Monday.

The deceased, Sub-Inspector Jayashree and Head Constable Nithya, both from Madhavaram Police Station, were on duty and reportedly headed to arrest an accused when the incident occurred near Sirunagalur.

When they reached Maduranthakam, a car that tried to overtake them hit them from behind. Both of them were thrown from the bike.

Jayashree was pronounced dead at the scene, while Nithya sustained severe injuries and was taken to the Chengalpet Government Hospital. Nithya succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Melmaruvathur Police have arrested the driver, identified as Madhan from Thiruvannamalai district, and have launched an investigation into the accident. Authorities are examining possible causes, including whether excessive speed or negligence played a role in the mishap.
