Retired Gujarat cop sentenced to 5 years for taking Rs 500 bribe in 2014

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had caught Makwana red-handed during a sting operation at the time.

A Gujarat court has sentenced a retired police constable to five years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty in a 2014 bribery case.

The ruling by Morbi district court, which came after years of proceedings, found the then Constable Amart Makwana, guilty of demanding a bribe of Rs 500 in exchange for facilitating a passport verification.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had caught Makwana red-handed during a sting operation at the time.

In its ruling, the court sentenced the former constable to five years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 1,000. Should the fine remain unpaid, Makwana faces an additional month of imprisonment.
